Washington Medicare with medicare coverage

Medicare

Medical and other health related services are important to maintaining your quality of life. From accidents to getting treatment from illnesses, your ability to see the doctor as you need affects every aspect of your life.

Unfortunately, Medicare isn’t always enough to cover the cost of receiving treatment. Medicare may not help you cover the cost of co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles, which is why Medicare supplemental insurance may be the best option for you.

Understanding Medicare Supplemental Insurance in Washington

Medicare supplemental insurance is an additional plan that is a complement to your existing Medicare plan. Medicare supplemental insurance is also different from traditional insurance plans and plans like:

  • Long term care insurance
  • Medicare Advantage plans
  • Medicaid
  • Tricare
  • Prescription drug plans

These insurance options may be available for you, but they do not provide the same type of coverage you may get from a Medicare supplemental insurance plan.

Do You Qualify for Medicare Supplemental Insurance?

Not everyone meets the requirements for Medicare supplemental insurance. For starters, you must have either Medicare Part A or Part B in order to get the Medicare supplement insurance commonly referred to as Medigap.

Questions and Answers Regarding Medicare Supplemental Insurance

Q: Who sells Medicare supplemental insurance?
A: You purchase Medicare supplemental insurance from a private company. Typically, you pay a monthly premium, which is separate from what you pay for Medicare Part B. You can only purchase this supplemental insurance from companies licensed to sell Medigap in Washington.

Q: Can I have both Medicare Advantage Plan and Medigap?
A: No. In order to get coverage using Medigap, you have to cancel your Medicare Advantage Plan prior to your Medigap coverage starting.

Q: Does Medigap include prescription drug coverage?
A: Medigap doesn’t include prescription drug cover effective January 2006. If you need coverage for prescriptions, do not hesitate to ask a helpful insurance representative in our office.
